A Long-Awaited Release from Pink Pantheress

Pink Pantheress, currently most well-known for her song "The Boy's a Liar pt. 2" which is a platinum-certified collaboration featuring Ice Spice has finally released her latest album, "Heaven knows". The British artist first rose to prominence through TikTok throughout 2021 with "Break it Off" and "Pain" before the release of Boy's a Liar.

Pink Pantheress, also known as Victoria Beverly Walker, marks her first conventional album release. Walker expertly bends musical pop standards that have been defined through TikTok, making them individualistic to her own sound. With this latest release though she strays further and further from her originally defined sound, exploring bigger beats and bringing a harder R&B foundation to her songs.

I discovered Pink Pantheress through our radio station VIC. We actually had a song by her called "All My Friends Know" from her 2021 album. Pink Pantheress has a vastly unique sound that is this mix of an R&B type of beat paired with her soft voice.

It's funny, Pantheress' voice actually reminds me a bit of SZA's, especially when she was first starting out. And looking at where SZA is now with 9 different Grammy nominations, it's almost comforting to see more stand-out voices making huge impacts on the R&B genre as a whole. R&B is in general extremely interesting as a genre since it features a lot of freedom and fluidity in the genre. It doesn't necessarily require rap but that flows with strong drums and unique instrumentals.

Artists like Pink Pantheress are able to take that and take their music to a whole new level, integrating some of the themes of pop as a genre but with the same flow seen in traditional R&B tunes. "The aisle" is one of my favorite examples of this the song on the surface sounds like a typical pop song but features house music as bed instrumentals and is paired with the unique mixing of Pink Pantheress and just the pure singularity that is Pink Pantheress' voice is truly unmatched and just intoxicating to listen to.

Her latest album in addition to Ice Spice, also includes a ton of different collaborations including Rema, Kelela, and Central Cee.
